Coal India confirmed it has signed a contract worth Rs 1461.81 crores with Russian OEM IZ-Kartez for the supply, installation and commissioning of 11 electric rope shovels for its Northern Coalfields business arm.
The fleet of 20-cubic-metre machines are to be delivered by September 2023.
The contract, which was handed out after a global competitive tender, also includes consumables and spares supply for an eight-year period.
CIL said three each of the machines will be put into place at the Nigahi, Dudhichua and Jayant coal complexes. One each will be delivered to the Khadia and Amlorhi mines.
The producer cited an effort to update its older fleet as an impetus for the purchases.
“This is the first major equipment procurement finalised in the ongoing fiscal so far,” the company said. “We are fast-tracking our procurement process in a bid to strengthen our mining equipment and replace the aging machines.”
