Anglo American has extended its services contract with Mastermyne for the Aquila underground metallurgical coal complex in Queensland, Australia, for an additional year in preparation for a new longwall.

The deal for development work and outbye services has been ongoing since August 2019. The extension involves the operation of an additional roadway development in the mains and gate roads ahead of the new longwall operation.

The A$60 million contract will run through March 2022. It will add about 60 additional workers to the payroll as well, Mastermyne said. Up to half of the additional personnel needed will be transferred from Anglo’s Moranbah North coal mine in Queensland.

Mastermyne will continue to supply development equipment from its fleet – including a continuous miner and ancillary development machines.

“We look forward to continuing our work with Anglo American to deliver their new longwall project,” Mastermyne chief executive Tony Caruso said.
