Southern Cross Electrical Engineering has obtained a A$55 million contract for the Gudai-Darri iron ore mine (formerly known as Koodaideri) in Western Australia.
The contract is for plant electrical and instrumentation works as part of the complex’s Phase 1 project.
SCEE said it will mobilise its crews to the site late this year. Work is expected to last about one year and wrap in December 2021.
It is not the first time SCEE and Rio Tinto have worked together. The miner also tapped the consultancy to do work at the Yandi mine as well as the Cape Lambert port.
SCEE Managing Director Graeme Dunn also cited the success the two have had in the Pilbara over their working relationship.
“This … will provide a solid base of construction work in the resources sector into the 2022 financial year” for the company, he noted.
The Gudai-Derri/Koodaideri operation is 100% owned by Rio Tinto.
