DRA Global subsidiary G&S Engineering Services has been tapped for a construction contract by FLSmidth for site erection services and assistance with commissioning of three rail-mounted yard machines at Rio Tinto’s Gudai-Darri complex in Western Australia.

A 75-member team has already begun work at the Pilbara mine to deliver the project. It should be completed sometime during the fourth quarter of this year.

G&S will be working closely with both FLSmidth and Rio Tinto on the project, as well as other on-site contractors, as the new mine is projected to be Rio’s most technologically advanced to date.

“The Group is delighted to assist FLSmidth with this construction contract,” said Greg McRostie, DRA Executive Vice President APAC.

“The contract is an exciting opportunity and reinforces DRA’s capabilities for rail mounted yard machines, for both erection and ongoing maintenance.”

In related DRA news, the company announced recently that it had successfully developed intelligent models that can automate the engineering design process for its conveyor systems.

The company’s intelligent conveyor models produce detailed three-dimensional models and detailed part-level bills of material; once the application receives its information from the mechanical conveyor design, it develops a model based on DRA’s design standards in line with client specifications.

The model is capable of handling plant, underground and overland conveyor arrangements. It is being implemented in all study phases.

DRA said the system was fully implemented in a recent platinum concentrator feasibility study it completed for a major mining company, and included 58 conveyors and feeders.
