Mining body appoints legal advisor

THE Myanmar Federation of Mining Association (MFMA), an organization which aims to promote the mining sector and its role in Myanmar’s economy, has appointed international law firm Stephenson Harwood to be its honorary legal advisor. Stephenson Harwood is the first and only firm to hold this role.

Centurion granted exploration concessions

Centurion Minerals’ concessions fall within the major gold and associated mineral belts that strike through central Myanmar.

Centurion Minerals’ Myanmar partner has confirmed that the Slate Belt and Bandi mineral exploration concession applications have been accepted by the Myanmar Ministry of Mines. The company has initiated a property-wide exploration reconnaissance program while it seeks approval from the regional government.

Coal will play major role in development

VIETNAM faces an acute shortage of electricity which will primarily be solved by more coal-fired power stations owing to the limited potential for new hydro plants and limited availability of gas. This will increase demand for coal and in anticipation the government has raised the coal export tax from 15% to 20% with further increases expected.

Second edition of Mining Vietnam in March

THE 2nd edition of Mining Vietnam will be staged from March 11 to 13 at the International Centre for Exhibition (ICE), Cultural Palace, Hanoi.
