Tigers Realm Coal has shipped its first coal cargo from Project F of the Amaam North project in Russia’s Far East. The company announced the significant milestone after completing loading of a ship with 38,500 tonnes of coal bound for its Asian destination.
The company handled the coal through its wholly-owned Beringovsky port using barge transshipment to the Handymax vessel MV Achilleus. The loading was completed on July 21 before the vessel began its journey south.
Tigers Realm said the loading began on July 12 and had proceeded smoothly with loading rates in line with its expectations for this year’s shipping season. Similar sized cargoes of coking and thermal coal will be exported through the remainder of the 2017 shipping season.
The company plans to deliver five additional haulage trucks to site before the end of the shipping season and with these vehicles is targeting an increase in annual production to 600,000 tonnes.
Since the commencement of Phase One at Project F in August 2016, the company has rapidly and successfully completed its initial road construction and infrastructure development program, commenced mining and produced coal in line with expected qualities, and trucked that coal only 37km along the company’s road to stockpiles at Beringovsky Port.
With the loading of this first vessel, Tigers Realm has successfully proven the operation’s mine to vessel logistics chain and demonstrated the unique attributes of this export coal project.
Mining and coal haulage was temporarily halted as planned at the end of April and the mobile fleet was redeployed onto road construction works to transform the winter road to an all season road. The road construction works are now complete and mining in the Project F pit has recommenced along with coal haulage to the port.
