Initial exploration drilling of the Judd Vein System at K92 Mining’s Kainantu Gold Project in Papua New Guinea has intersected high grade gold, silver and copper. The drilling has also extended the known strike length of the system to approximately 2000 metres.

Each of the first six exploration holes drilled to target the system, which is adjacent to the Irumafimpa ore body, intersected significant gold, copper and silver mineralisation.

Best results are 0.4 metres @ 8.27 g/t gold, 500 g/t silver and 8.1% copper, and 1.2 metres @ 3.07 g/t gold, 158 g/t silver and 5.1% copper.

The previous drilling at the Judd system was carried out adjacent to the Kore deposit with results including 9 metres @ 8.8 g/t gold and 1.1% copper, and 3 metres @ 278 g/t gold.

The Judd Vein System is within the Kainantu mining lease and runs parallel to the Irumafimpa-Kora Vein System. It is also parallel to and between 50 and 100 metres from the main access decline into the Irumafimpa ore body, which would provide for easy access should drilling identify a suitable resource for mining.

In September 2016, K92 commenced an initial underground diamond drilling program targeting the Judd system to confirm that the system, which was known to run parallel to the Kora deposit, extends as far north as the Irumafimpa deposit.

Every hole drilled, covering a strike length of approximately 200 metres, returned significant results confirming that the Judd vein system does extend at least to the Irumafimpa ore body.

The proposed exploration drive from the existing Irumafimpa access incline to the known Kora deposit would run parallel to and within 50 to 100 metres of the Judd Vein System. Importantly, Judd is an exploration target and is not part of the K92 mineral resource or the mining inventory.

K92 chief executive officer and director Ian Stalker said: “These high grade results from the first exploration holes drilled at Judd are very positive. While it is significant that the known strike length of Judd has been extended to 2000 metres with it remaining open along strike, it is also very important to note the high grades of copper and silver alongside the gold in these early exploration results.

“While our technical team on site continues to focus on the successful ramp up in our production from the Irumafimpa ore body, these exploration results give us increasing confidence in the expansion potential of the mine.”
