Mining and Engineering (M&E) Indonesia 2016 will take place at the Jakarta International Expo from October 19-21. The event will be co-located with Indonesia Transport Supply Chain & Logistics (ITSCL) 2016 and 90 companies from 10 countries will participate.

MandE logoApart from the exhibition, the biennial M&E Indonesia, organised by Reed Panorama Exhibitions (RPE), will feature three conference sessions run in conjunction - Ozmine, ASPINDO and PERHAPI.

Reed says the event aims to generate opportunities for local and international suppliers to cement business deals, showcase latest products, technologies, services and network with mining professionals from Indonesia and the surrounding region.

Indonesia continues to be a significant player in the global mining industry with significant production of coal, copper, gold, tin and nickel, and remains among the world’s largest exporters of thermal coal.

Despite the decline in commodity prices in 2012 and 2013 and other industry challenges, mining has continued to benefit Indonesia in many ways. In 2015, the industry contributed 4% to Indonesia’s GDP and 14% to Indonesia’s export revenue. The domestic demand for coal is expected to increase further, boosted by the government’s aggressive plans for coal-fired power as part of its 35GW electrification program.

In this regard, M&E Indonesia 2016 is hoped to be a catalyst which can bring new perspective to mining and its supporting sectors.

RPE general manager James Boey said, “The event will play a crucial role in creating potential opportunities to major mining players, especially those in the Asia-Pacific and ASEAN regions. Despite the commodity price decline and challenges within the industry, Indonesia is still seen as one of the most desirable mining investment destinations in the region. We hope to support the industry by creating new business opportunities at the event”.

This year’s M&E Indonesia will present two new industry segments - power and energy, and heavy equipment.

M&E Indonesia 2016 will feature three key brands as its sponsors - DYNAVIS® by EVONIK Industries AG as Gold Sponsor, Total Oil Indonesia as Silver Sponsor and AEL Indonesia as Silver Sponsor. These industry giants remain hopeful and optimistic that the mining industry will be revived through collaborative efforts.

DYNAVIS® – Asia Pacific, Evonik Industries AG marketing manager Carlos Vernet said, “The mining sector faces a challenging 2016 as commodity prices go downward. The industry therefore requires more cost-efficient operational solutions. DYNAVIS® technology is been proven to be one of the solutions. It offers higher viscosity index and shear stability to hydraulic fluids, which results in significant cost reduction. We see M&E 2016 a perfect place to introduce DYNAVIS® to Indonesian markets.

Austrade Senior Trade Commissioner in Jakarta Kym Hewett said, “M&E 2016 and Ozmine is a key platform for Australian METS and mining companies to grow their business by learning more about opportunities, gaining insights into the Indonesian market, and showcasing their products and services to a diverse range of Indonesian and ASEAN businesses.”

Austrade has organised the Ozmine conference with the support of key industry associations including, AusIMM, Austmine, Djakarta Mining Club, ICMA, Coal Club Indonesia, IMA and ASPINDO. The conference features high profile mining sector leaders from across region. In addition, this year’s M&E Indonesia 2016 will feature unique business matching meetings to help identify business opportunities among international suppliers with business entities in Indonesia.

RPE in collaboration with ASPINDO will also stage a CEO gathering ‘Learn from Experience: Achieving Safety & Environmental Management Award’ to discuss and share ideas on safety and good environmental practices. ASPINDO chairman Tjahyono Imawan said, “This is a good opportunity for mining practitioners to network, share ideas and collaborate to achieve our ultimate goal of creating a progressive industry trend yet keeping it coherent to safe practices and good environmental management.”

The Association of Indonesian Mining Professionals (PERHAPI) will also conduct a one-day conference ‘Mining Added Value Policies And Strategies: Gone Today, Here Tomorrow’ which is aimed to gather mining professionals to express their thoughts and seek input on how to refine regulations, strategies, policies and their impacts in the future. The outcome is to formulate alternative solutions to create a competitive advantage in Indonesia’s mining industry.
