Donhad Pty Ltd is this year celebrating its 50th year in business and believes that its heritage of bringing innovative products to mining companies is standing in good stead during difficult times for the global mining industry.
Donhad is a privately-owned company which was founded in Bassendean, Western Australia in 1965. The company manufactures forged steel grinding balls, engineering forgings and a range of specialized fasteners used by mining and mineral processing industries.
Donhad has three manufacturing sites in Australia to provide a reliable supply of top quality grinding balls.
Like many other mining service providers in recent times, Donhad has been busy developing changes and improvements to its R & D and manufacturing processes in order to market higher quality product at lower cost to customers.
The advent of increased grinding media competition, including overseas producers; meeting customer demands for lower cost and higher productivity; steel prices; exchange rates; and lower mineral commodity prices have all played key roles in creating pressure.
However, according to Donhad’s managing director Paul Shelley, 50 years of experience has enabled Donhad to seek more innovative ways to come up with better solutions. Many of these advances have come through collaboration and hard work with customers who stand to gain enormously from improved performance grinding media.
The company has now released its new range of HiCarb (higher carbon content) grinding balls following exhaustive trialling and resultant improvements and modifications. Paul Shelley says these balls deliver lower overall mill operation costs through longer life and are now available to SAG and Ball mill owners and operators.
