SNC-Lavalin has expanded its offering to the Australian resources and infrastructure sectors through the addition of the local operations of Kentz Corporation and Interfleet to its Mining and Metallurgy, and Environment and Water Business Units.

“We are delighted to unite all our operations across Australia to service the entire resources and infrastructure industry. Together we will be making a major contribution to onshore and offshore resources development and the transportation sector, both existing and new projects,” says SNC-Lavalin’s senior vice-president Mining & Metals, Australia, Marius van Tonder.

He says the recent acquisition of the global Kentz business supports SNC-Lavalin’s ongoing transformation into a global tier-1 engineering and construction (E&C) company. “The acquisition has significantly increased the company’s presence in the Australian market, and diversified its product and services mix, while maintaining core construction capability.”

Within Australia, SNC-Lavalin’s Oil and Gas business now has key construction roles in a number of major developments as a result of the integration of Kentz’s substantial LNG operations. This includes the Gorgon, QGC LNG, PNG LNG and Ichthys projects. The Oil and Gas business now has the scale and capability to undertake large projects throughout Australasia.

SNC-Lavalin Infrastructure business is present through Interfleet, an international rail consultancy focusing on all areas of rail expertise. Interfleet recently worked on the project management of the introduction of Gold Coast Light Railway System that is a key element of the wider plan to address traffic congestion by providing a wholly integrated public transport network. Interfleet is also involved in the second phase with a 7.3km extension of GCRT for the Queensland government as Operations Adviser.

As part of SNC-Lavalin’s integration of the existing Resources Group (Mining and Metallurgy and Environment and Water Business Units) with Kentz and continued focus on the oil and gas market in Asia-Pacific and Australia, SNC-Lavalin has confirmed the appointment of Brian Kelly as senior regional executive Australia & Asia.

“We have close relationships with our clients, deep bench strength in LNG construction projects and together with SNC-Lavalin can now provide comprehensive EPC services for brownfield development, sustaining capital projects, gas processing and handling facilities, telecoms and other areas. We look forward to continuing these relationships and providing truly end-to-end solutions,” says Brian Kelly.
