The mineral-rich island of Sumatra has a big role to play in helping Indonesia realize the benefits the potential of its natural resources and next week’s Sumatra Miner conference will be an important stepping stone in this process. The conference will be held at the Aryaduta Hotel in Palembang on Wednesday, March 4 and Thursday, March 5.
The conference and associated exhibition is being organized by Mining Media International, publishers of The ASIA Miner magazine, and the sponsors are PT Bis Industries and G-Resources Martabe Gold Mine. It is being organized in conjunction with the Indonesian Mining Services Association (Aspindo), FRHLBT (Green Mining Association), the South Sumatra provincial government, Indonesian Coal Mining Association, Energy Nusantara, Flexco and Event and Convention House.
The conference will open on March 4 with addresses by South Sumatra Province Governor H Alex Noerdin and Mining Media International president Peter Johnson. The Governor will then provide an overview of mining in the region along with PT Agincourt Resources’ Tim Duffy. Chiarman for the conference is PT Sanaman Coal’s Ben Lawson.
Also on the opening day there will be a session on investment with an Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board representative speaking along with South Sumatra Trade and Industry Department’s Ir Permana and ASPAC Mining’s Ramli Ahmad. Another session will focus on innovative technology with speakers being Martin Engineering’s Michael Tenzer, Tsukishima Kikai’s Tamaki Saito, Royal Haskoning DHV’s Willham George Louhenapessy and PT Geoservices’ Wiku Padmonoba.
On March 5 the opening session will be about current operations with speakers including PT Danmar Explorindo’s Tobias Maya, PT Reswara Minergi Hartama’s Harry Asmar and PT MNC Energy and Resources’ Humala Oloan. The second session will cover the regulatory environment with speakers being FRHLBT’s Jeffrey Mulyono, Indonesian Coal Mining Association’s Supriatna Sahala and Archean Indonesia’s Did Marsono.
The third session covers health and safety with speakers being PT Australian Skills Training’s Mahadi Capah and Aspindo’s Dr Soeprayitno, and the day will wind up with a section focusing on operational excellence. The speakers in this session include PT Pamapersada Nusantara’s Gamma Edwina Akbar, PT Gistec Prima’s Robert Machnik, PT Bis Industries’ Ian Lynass and Orica’s Vivek Misra.
