In May 2013 Caterpillar and Seeing Machines entered into a global alliance to promote and distribute the Driver Safety System (DSS) through Caterpillar’s global dealer network. The DSS has more than 2500 units working in the field providing customers with an innovative solution to manage and mitigate operator distraction and fatigue.
Caterpillar and Cat Dealers are supporting industry safety by providing the DSS and Cat MineStar Detect to raise employees’ awareness of risks in, on and around heavy equipment.
As heavy equipment is being used more and more in 24/7 shift work industries, customers are actively looking for additional technology solutions. Since the DSS was installed in its first haul truck five years ago, the system has already captured nearly 2 million fatigue and distraction events. The Driver Safety System is unique because it identifies fatigue and distraction as simple, observable events easily communicated and understood by drivers.
Several Cat dealers have already become exclusive DSS sales and service providers for their customers beginning with Wagner Equipment, and followed by MATCO, GECOLSA, and most recently WesTrac in Australia.
WesTrac executive general manager Jamie Sanders says of their recent alliance, “WesTrac is very excited about our alliance with Seeing Machines. Through the alliance, WesTrac will make a real difference in enabling our customers' fatigue management efforts. WesTrac now brings customers the industry leading fatigue management product along with Caterpillar's superior Object Detection technologies to offer our customers a step change in safe off-highway truck operations.”
More Cat dealers are coming on board every month to deliver this comprehensive distraction and fatigue technology for customers. Customers interested in the DSS should contact their local dealer for more information.
