Drill bit supplier Varel Mining and Industrial, on the heels of a sale of its oil and gas division, has changed its name to Terelion.
Terelion, which divested the division so that it could focus solely on the mining industry, will continue to design and manufacture as well as delivery its bits and associated product for global blasthole drilling customers.
Rotary drill bits and down-the-hole (DTH) products for surface mining will be the centre of the newly renamed company’s business line. Its portfolio, however, will also still include bits for water wells, construction and other industrial applications.
“Terelion will continue to build on the proud heritage of the Varel brand,” Terelion president David Harrington said.
“Refining our product line allows us to strengthen our R&D and marketing efforts, while continuing to supply … [to] our mining customers.”
Texas, U.S.-based Terelion is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sandvik Group.
