BHP half-year profit surges 29 per cent

BHP announced positive results for the half year ended 31 December 2019, including an attributable profit of US$4.9 billion, an increase of 29 per cent from the prior-year period. The company also announced an interim dividend for shareholders of 65 U.S. cents per share, reflecting the solid cash flow generated in the period.

MCA to work with new Minister on building strong future for the industry

The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) has welcomed the appointment of Hon Keith Pitt MP as Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia, following the resignation of Matt Canavan. The association will work closely with Mr Pitt and his ministerial colleagues in the Morrison Government to maintain the growth and success of Australia’s resources industry.

Rio Tinto, Fortescue donate funds to support coronavirus efforts

Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals Group recently announced how they are financially supporting medical efforts in China to combat the coronavirus outbreak. Rio Tinto has donated US$1 million to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation, while Fortescue said it will donate A$1 million to the Wuhan Qingshan Charity Federation.
