Philippines to ban open pit mining

Philippines Environment Secretary Gina Lopez has continued her months-long crackdown on the country’s mining industry by issuing an order to ban the open pit mining method for copper, gold, silver and complex ores. The order will only apply to prospective mines and will not include existing open pit operations.

Funds to advance Kyrgyz gold mine

Chaarat Gold Holdings will use US$15 million raised through the issue of short term senior secured convertible loan notes to move into the first stage of development at the Tulkubash Heap Leach Project in the Kyrgyz Republic. Tulkubash will be the first stage developed at the wider Chaarat project.

Kenadyr Mining has finalised a drill contract with Quest Exploration Drilling (QED) for a high-impact core and reverse circulation drill program on its Borubai gold licences in the Kyrgyz Republic. Drilling will start within the next 90 days.

Ceylon Graphite Corp has commenced drilling at its K1 site in Sri Lanka, which is a past producing graphite mine. Drilling will initially focus on the area identified during VLF mapping around the old mine site.
