MICROMINE’s Indonesian division, PT Mikromine Indonesia Perdana, and Mining Media International, publishers of The ASIA Miner and Coal Age Indonesia, are combining to present the Intelligent Mining Workshop Series 2013 in Indonesia. A 3-day mineral focus workshop will be held at the Padma Hotel, Bandung from May 15-17 while a 3-day coal focus workshop will be held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Jakarta from May 21-23.
The geostatistics workshops will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of geostatistics for the mining industry, from data analysis through to the estimation and classification of resources and reserves. For the Bandung workshop the discussion and case studies will focus on minerals projects while the Jakarta workshop will focus on coal projects.
Each workshop alternates between lectures and case studies. The lectures provide an informal and intuitive introduction to key topics while the case study examples create opportunities for discussion of practice. Theory is kept to the absolute minimum so that more time can be devoted to practice and applications.
Each workshop concludes with a discussion of compliance with the reporting requirements of international codes such as JORC and NI 43-101, including how geostatistics can assist with resource classification.
The workshops will be presented by R Mohan Srivastava, a geostatistical consultant with more than 30 years of experience. He is a recognized expert in statistical methods to earth studies and is often engaged as an expert witness because of his strong knowledge of theory and his decades of practical experience.
He is an author of ‘An Introduction to Applied Geostatistics’, the major introductory textbook on geostatistics, and has written more than 50 technical articles and reports on the theory and practice of geostatistics. He currently works as a resource estimation consultant with Micromine Consulting Services.
Although aimed at an introductory level, the workshops will serve as an excellent refresher course and will introduce practical ideas that will benefit experienced resource estimation specialists.
