More than half a million visitors have gone through the turnstiles at Munich’s bauma 2013, breaking attendance records for the construction and mining machinery exhibition.
Offical figures show that 530,000 attendees from more than 200 countries converged on the Messe München Exhibition Centre between April 15 and 21 to visit more than 3420 exhibitors.
Organizers say the proportion of international visitors was higher than ever with Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France among the top 10 countries of origin. Bauma’s partner country for 2013, Indonesia, was also strongly represented by about 800 visitors and a high-ranking political delegation.
Messe München chief executive officer Klaus Dittrich says, “Our exhibitors were delighted with the quality of the visitors here and with the international spread represented among them. Good business has been done here. With over 200,000 visitors from outside Germany, the number of international attendees was higher than ever before. The response this year has simply been outstanding.”
The record attendance has resulted in product orders far exceeding expectations. Liebherr-International AG director Stefan Heissler confirmed, “This has been an absolutely positive trade show for us. We welcomed customers from all around the world at our booths and we signed up lots of new orders.”
Zeppelin Baumaschinen GmbH chairman Michael Heidemann, agrees. “From the first day on, the booth of Zeppelin and Caterpillar was almost overrun with visitors. We have sold more machines at bauma 2013 than ever before and have set a new record.”
The Liebherr Group says a multitude of orders were signed across all its divisions from earthmoving equipment to concrete technology. Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH managing director Christoph Kleiner says, “At the bauma trade fair, we have made a better start in the area of mobile cranes than practically ever before. By Wednesday, we had already sold 55 cranes. Customers from North America, Great Britain and Russia formed the main body of interest. There was also interest in our new products at the trade fair, such as the new 1000-tonne crawler crane LR 11000 or the mobile cranes LTM 1300-6.2 and LTM 1060-3.1.”
