The 10th annual Discover Mongolia International Mining Investors Forum (IMIF) has been moved to take place on August 30 and 31 in Ulaanbataar. The event has also attracted a premier sponsor for this year with Mongolia’s largest copper and gold miner Oyu Tolgoi LLC taking the rights to headline the conference.
Oyu Tolgoi is a partnership between the Mongolian government, Ivahnoe Mines and Rio Tinto, and its flagship project is on schedule to start commercial production in early 2013.
Oyu Tolgoi LLC’s president Cameron McRae says, “Oyu Tolgoi, Mongolia’s world-class mining company, is delighted to be the premier sponsor and to once again support Discover Mongolia. This conference has a proud history of promoting international partnerships that boost the development of Mongolia.
“This is an exciting time for Mongolia and the question of foreign investment is under a lot of scrutiny. Successful foreign investment laws strike a fair balance between encouraging foreign direct investment and protecting the national interest. We look forward to discussing this and other matters with interested stakeholders at the conference.”
The conference will again be held at the Children’s Palace and has other major sponsors including Xanadu Mines, Aspire and Micromine Mongolia. This year’s agenda will focus on recent developments in Mongolia’s mining and foreign investment landscape.
“We would like Discover Mongolia IMIF to be the bridge between the private sector mining investors and the newly elected parliament. We are certain that many delegates will be interested in voicing their opinion or learning more about the new foreign investment regulation law," said the chairman of the organizing committee H.E. Ochirbat Punsalmaa.
