Five new members have been elected to the Board at KazaX Minerals in a bid to help progress the development of its Lomonosovskoye iron ore project near Kostanay in Kazakhstan.
Carlos Ballon, Tarek Damerji, Oleg Demidkin, Anton Drescher and Paul Larkin were elected at the company’s annual general meeting last month. The new members will add a combined 150 + years of experience to the company’s executive team.
Carlos Ballon has extensive experience as a mining engineer, managing major projects in Peru, Malaysia and Kazakhstan since the 1980s.
Tarek Damerji has worked for and co-founded engineering companies in the Middle East and is currently special projects director for the Al Habtoor Leighton Group, which contracts civil, infrastructure, power, oil and gas projects.
Oleg Demidkin has almost 25 years’ experience in the steel and iron ore industry, and is a founding member of the steel trading and distributing Safin Group which operates in 45 countries. Anton Drescher has been a certified management accountant since 1981 and holds various executive positions of several companies including Ravencrest Resources and Corvus Gold.
Paul Larkin has almost 40 years of experience in corporate finance and capital markets and holds positions on the New Dawn Holdings, Tyner Resources and Westbridge Energy Corporation’s Boards. He has also served as an audit, compensation and executive committee member for a number of other public companies.
The five new directors replaced Jonathan Younie, Ian McKinnon and Michael Larkin, who were thanked for their assistance during the previous 12 months as the company transitioned from Newbridge Capital to KazaX Minerals. The new directors join KazaX Minerals’ president David Savage and current director Mohamad Chafic, both of whom were re-elected to the Board.
International mining executive Daniel Kunz was also appointed as a Board director. He has more than 35 years of mining experience in exploration, development, and operations. From 1997 to 2004, He served as director, president and chief operating officer of Ivanhoe Mines and was part of the team that discovered Oyu Tolgoi, in Mongolia, one of the largest copper-gold deposits in the world.
