The Beumer Group has won a contract to supply Brazilian mining subsidiary Vale Malaysia Minerals Sdn Bhd (VMM) with 16 overland conveyors, making it the largest order in the company’s history.
The conveyors will be installed in an iron ore distribution centre VVM is establishing in Teluk Rubiah, in Perak’s Manjung district. Iron ore will arrive at the facility from Brazil and then be blended and shipped to Asia-Pacific customers.
VVM says it will use the troughed conveyor belts off the Malaysian coast, in the Malacca Strait, for transporting iron ore from large ore carriers to smaller vessels in a specially designed port and storage facility. The conveyors will transport the ore for 3km from the terminal to the port. Construction of the centre is already under way, with the loading terminals scheduled to begin operating in 2014.
Beumer estimates the order is worth more than US$100 million, the largest for the conveying and loading technology department. The Beumer Group is an international leader in the manufacture of intralogistics for conveying, loading, palletizing, packaging, sortation and distribution technology. It employs about 3200 people in dozens of industries across the world.
