Ausenco Limited has been awarded a $30 million engineering services contract for the US$1.5 billion Aktogay Copper Project owned by Kazakhmys plc, which is the world’s 11th largest copper producer, managing more than 20% of Kazakhstan’s copper supply.
Ausenco Mineral & Metals’ role involves the engineering and design of the open-pit mine and once operational it is estimated that the concentrator will annually produce around 100,000 tonnes of copper concentrate.
Ausenco CEO Zimi Meka says, “The Ausenco team was excited about working on its first project for Kazakhmys. There is enormous growth potential in Kazakhstan and Kazakhmys in particular has flagged a large expansion program that we want to help deliver.
“This project further adds to our geographic diversification and positions us well to capture future growth opportunities in the mineral rich region of Central Asia.”
On September 8, 2011 Ausenco announced it had received a letter of intent to deliver two projects worth $70 million in revenue. Aktogay is one of those projects and the contract has now been signed. Ausenco will commence work on this project immediately.
Ausenco sets high global standards for engineering and project management services in the resources and energy sectors. Across 29 offices in 19 countries, it seeks ingenious solutions for clients in the energy, environment & sustainability, minerals & metals, process infrastructure and program management sectors.
