CONFERENCES – Helping mining industry rise to the challenge

The fifth AMEC National Mining Congress in Perth during May aims to help the mining industry rise to the challenges presented by the global financial crisis.

It is, therefore, appropriate that the theme of the congress is ‘Rising to the Challenge’.

The congress is organised by the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies and this year will be held at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre on May 21 and 22.

The congress is an important event on the Australian mining events calendar for both companies and individuals from the resources, investment and government sectors.

In 2009 the congress will again feature leading industry experts. It will open with the 2009 Arvi Parbo Oration, which will be delivered by Ron Manners, a leading industry icon of the Australian mining and exploration industry.

Other highlights include keynote sessions with Alan Kohler, one of Australia’s most respected finance and economic commentators, and Richard Gibbs, global head of economics with Macquarie Bank.

The 2009 congress will also feature the National Gala Awards Dinner where various industry awards will be presented including the 23rd Australian Media Awards and the AMEC Prospector Award.
