LONG established Western Australian trailer manufacturer Howard Porter has established a new China-based manufacturing entity, Global Trailer Solutions, with the aim of manufacturing and selling Australian-designed equipment throughout Asia. The new company will be known mostly as GTS.
Global Trailer Solutions will provide Australian-designed equipment to Asian customers from a new manufacturing facility in China.
The manufacturing operations in southern China will be using proven Australian designs, manufacturing techniques and supervision to guarantee quality … but at a much more affordable price. As with all Howard Porter products, customers can choose their own preferred brand of component equipment or take the standard.
Base designs are available but purpose-engineered equipment is also offered. Group chairman Giulio Lombardi says “We offer well engineered product to international standards and back our customers 110%. That is the way we have been building our business interests for more than 30 years.”
The group has extensive experience in mining, general transport, agriculture, oil & gas, and chemical transport. The range of product includes flat tops, container semis, drop decks, low loaders, tankers (for water, fuel and oil), end tips, side tips, bottom dumps, grain trailers, livestock trailers and many more.
The Asian region including South East Asia, Northern Asia, Central Asia and the Sub-Continent, as well as the Middle East and African markets offer some tough environments and applications but the group is keen to take on challenges as it expands and projects its reputation. Giulio Lombardi says, “Each country has its own regulations and preferred way of doing things. That is why we must be flexible in what we offer in each place.”
Engineering design will be controlled from the Australian operations for now, and skilled Australian workshop supervisors are spending time at the new factory to train personnel and oversee workmanship and overall quality.
Tom Porter from the original Howard Porter family has taken on the role of manager - international business development and sales in GTS. He has extensive experience in developing countries including Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Mongolia, as well as other markets in the South East Asian and Asian regions. Tom Porter will be travelling extensively throughout the target markets to meet prospective clients, assist in developing specific proposals and generally expanding the GTS business operations.
Giulio Lombardi says, “Keep your eyes open for GTS equipment coming soon to operators near you.”
